What do we know about Hemp and Marijuana?

Hemp and marijuana are two different physical varieties of cannabis that vary in their genetic makeup. Hemp consists of a variety of the cannabis plant which cultivators harvest for its seeds and stalks. Marijuana generally refers to the dried leaves and flower of the cannabis plant. The biggest difference between hemp and marijuana is the varying levels of CBD and THC. Marijuana has higher levels of THC than hemp, and hemp has higher levels of CBD than marijuana. In order to be considered hemp, a cannabis plant must contain less than 0%THC.

Hemp can be used to make textiles, industrial materials, clothes, and food, among other things.

It is also important to note that THC is an illegal substance, while Hemp is legal in all 50 states.

CBD vs THC

The legalization of medical marijuana is sweeping across our nation and has made tons of headway. Scientists have researched and used technology to dissect the cannabis plant separating and isolating 113 different genetically made-up traits referred to as cannabinodids. This process has given us a wealth of medical knowledge on the benefits of what lies deep within this one unique plant.

Out of the 113 cannabinodids, the two most common cannabiniods in the cannabis plant are THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). They are similar on a molecular level; however, they react differently with the (CB1) Endocannabinoid receptors located primarily in the recipient’s central and peripheral nervous system and assist with control of appetite, pain, mood, inflammation, memory and more. THC, however is unique among all the rest for one reason; it’s intoxicating and psychoactive. CBD on the other hand prevents the action of THC at the CB1 receptor and, has been known to negate the psychoactive effects of THC. Studies show CBD is both non-intoxicating and displays a range of potential wide variety of therapeutic and medical applications.

The bottom line is that THC gets you high and CBD is the non-euphoria part of the plant which delivers the most practical medical benefits and has had the best results without any psychoactive effects. This allows patients dealing with many medical conditions to treat themselves naturally and eliminating the side effects caused by the dependency of pharmaceutical drugs.

Marijuana, on the other hand, has psychoactive properties and is used in various forms such as for smoking, vaporizers, mixed in food and or brewed as a tea.
